The key question for Liverpool’s transfer plans today is what their former players can still return to the club. Harry Wilson, after 16 years as a Red, is attracting interest ahead of becoming a free agent. Liverpool inserted a 15 per cent sell-on clause when Fulham signed him in 2022, but that provision may now bring in nothing.
Wilson’s next move may leave Liverpool empty-handed
Wilson impressed for Fulham last season and has several clubs interested. The Athletic reports that Leeds United are close to signing him, with talks on an agreement under way. Since Wilson is set to leave on a free transfer, Liverpool would miss out on a fee and any financial return from their clause.
That’s a sharp contrast with the £7 million move Bobby Clark made from RB Salzburg to Derby County this week: a similar sell-on clause earned Liverpool £1.2 million. The Wilson situation shows how much those clauses depend on a future transfer fee being paid.
Klopp says Laimer was a Liverpool target
The revealing part of Jürgen Klopp’s World Cup commentary was how specifically he described Konrad Laimer’s role. Working as a pundit for Magenta TV, the former Liverpool manager discussed Austria’s match with Argentina and said he had wanted to bring the midfielder to Anfield as a No. 6. Laimer joined Bayern Munich in 2023 instead. “I wanted to bring him to Liverpool to play that role,” Klopp said before Austria’s 2-0 defeat to Argentina. “But then he went to Bayern.” That’s more than a passing transfer anecdote: Klopp was clear about where he saw Laimer fitting into his team. The comment doesn’t explain how close Liverpool came to a deal, though. (Image: Getty)Transfer watch: Bouaddi and the latest links
Liverpool are among the clubs reportedly tracking 18-year-old Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, whose World Cup performances have drawn attention around Europe. Real Madrid had also been linked with him, but Spanish outlet [AS](https://as.com/futbol/primera/enzo-fernandez-aparece-en-escena-f202606-n/) reports that new manager José Mourinho now prefers Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández. The report says Mourinho sees Fernández as a better fit for his project and rates the less experienced Bouaddi lower. That could ease the competition for Liverpool, but it’s only a reported shift in Madrid’s preference. It doesn’t establish that the Reds have made an offer or are close to signing Bouaddi. John Barnes has dismissed the idea that Andoni Iraola should bring former Bournemouth players with him to Anfield. Liverpool’s new manager arrived from Bournemouth, and reports have suggested he could target players from his old squad. Barnes, 62, argues that none of them would improve Iraola’s Liverpool side.
